Join Kokanee Elementary in making a difference in education, by incorporating fathers and father figures in our school! The time commitment is small; take a few hours or a full day off to be a WATCH DOG on campus! You can spend all day at recess with kids, if you prefer, or you can spend it in various settings, like reading with kids, having lunch in your child's class, helping in PE, patrolling school grounds, and more. Studies show that WATCH DOGS at school increases safety and decreases bullying.

Each year a student directory is printed and distributed to each family that purchases it. Additional copies may be purchased for a $$ fee while supplies last. The directory is a highly valued tool for the Kokanee community. To put the directory together, the chair will need to work with the office staff to utilize information from the district files. They must also provide each member with a way to elect not to have some or all information provided in the directory. The chair should also work with the Principal to see if the school would like other materials included in the phone directory.

Art Docent
Art Docent

The art docent chairperson will identify a parent volunteer from each classroom to provide art lessons to students approximately once per month.

The Northshore School District started the Art Docent program in 1969. It is a volunteer run program bringing art into the classroom. Typically you volunteer once a month in the classroom. There are lessons already established for each grade level, covering the elements and principles of design. Kokanee is fortunate to have a kiln for clay projects which the students love.
It is not a prerequisite to be an artist. Being an Art Docent is a great opportunity to be involved in your child’s classroom. More than one volunteer is great, working in teams works well.

The Washington State PTA, in partnership with the National PTA, sponsors a state wide arts education contest in the fall known as the Reflections Program. 2013–14 REFLECTIONS THEME: BELIEVE, DREAM, INSPIRE ! This theme was submitted through the Reflections theme search contest by Julie Lampert of Waverly Park PTA, located in East Rockaway, New York.
“My Inspiration for the theme came from my experience in competitive sports. I hope that students across the country will strive to make their dreams become a reality,” Julie writes.“My favorite thing about Reflections is the focus on creativity. I always like to draw, so visual arts is my favorite Reflections category. I love fashion and I spend a lot of time drawing fashion sketches. My family encourages me to do art by getting me lots of art supplies and taking me to art museums like the MOMA (Museum of Modern Art).”

The Kokanee School Nurses, Marianne Carter, performs vision and hearing testing, for all our students on a yearly basis. This chairperson is responsible for acting as liaison to Kokanees' nurse, soliciting and scheduling volunteers. A total of 8 to 10 volunteers are needed (morning or afternoon shift) and they will be trained to work immediately prior to their shift. Because this process is very focused and busy, volunteers are asked to not bring preschoolers along.
